traceygoop on "WordPress seems to ignore WP_MEMORY_LIMIT / admin-ajax.php 500 error"

Hi, got a strange scenario occurring and hope you can help.

We have a client site that uses WooCommerce, but is regularly (yet inconsistently) plagued by the dreaded PHP Fatal error due to memory exhausted. This oddly results in customers being unable to complete their purchases due to issues with admin-ajax.php (assuming the two issues are related).

We spoke to our host, and they have increased memory_limit to 128M so we added define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '128M'); to wp-config.php - and WooCommerce's System Status also recognises that "WP Memory Limit: 128 MB".

However, we are still seeing PHP Fatal errors in our log that seem to indicate that WordPress only thinks it has 64M:

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of <em>67108864 bytes</em> exhausted (tried to allocate 215070 bytes) in /home/clientname/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 377

These PHP Fatal errors also coincide with admin-ajax.php throwing this error:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error) admin-ajax.php.

So my questions are these:

Why would WordPress still think it only has 64M of memory, when WooCommerce knows the real limit?

Are the memory limit errors causing the admin-ajax.php errors, or vice versa?

What can we do to rectify these issues?

Any replies are VERY much appreciated, thanks to this problem we're going grey and losing hair all at the same time.

I have a ProPhoto blog.

Yesterday, I tried updating my overall custom font but it didn't work. I also tried updating my plug-ins but received an error message. My website http://jynallenphotography.com was working fine after that. Today, however, my entire site is down. I can't even log in to the /wp-admin to view anything.

I honestly have no idea what my steps should be to fix this because I'm not savvy in websites at all.

I contacted my host, GoDaddy, who ran everything they could and they could not find the issue. They directed me here.

My error message is as follows:The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I updated the plugin to its latest version today, and ever since, I've been getting Internal Server Errors on my site. I then decided to rename the .htaccess file and the site was back online. I only disabled the option to NOT show the cached version of the site to logged in users before this started happening.

Currently, I've had to disable the plugin and deleting the lines included by wp fastest cache in my site's .htaccess file.

WP_Joe on "[Plugin: Kalin's PDF Creation Station] Front-end link for PDF produces "Internal Server Error""

Hi Kalin,

I installed and activated the plugin, and chose to provide the PDF link at the top of each post. I'm running WP 4.01 with PHP 5.5 at 1and1. Website blog page is http://duarte.apps-1and1.com/blog/ (under construction, with trivial test posts.) When I click on the PDF link for any post, I get the following error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The error page URL is: http://duarte.apps-1and1.com/wp-content/plugins/kalins-pdf-creation-station/kalins_pdf_create.php?singlepost=po_24

All the HTML and text fields in the admin are the defaults – I didn't edit any. The boxes I had checked were: "Automatically generate PDFs on publish or update" and "Use post slug..." (that one might have been checked by default.)

I also clicked the Create All button, which I assume creates the PDFs for existing content/posts. The messages for that, and for the Save Settings button, were all successful.

I later checked the Include Images option, and saved. No change – same error, as expected.

Any idea how to fix this error? I didn't see anything in the threads. Could PHP 5.5 be a problem? I don't think many people are running it yet.

Thanks for your help,

Joe

Hi,
We just moved to a cloud server from a hosted solution and I'm in the process of trying to update the site.

I'm trying to run the upgrade to wordpress 4.0.1 and I'm getting this message.

http://clip2net.com/s/391iYDy

The error log is reporting

[Thu Dec 18 14:46:19.788444 2014] [fcgid:warn] [pid 48795] [client REMOVED:40195] mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 45 seconds, referer: http://REMOVED/wp-admin/update-core.php?action=do-core-upgrade

[Thu Dec 18 14:46:19.788495 2014] [fcgid:warn] [pid 48795] (110)Connection timed out: [client REMOVED:40195] mod_fcgid: ap_pass_brigade failed in handle_request_ipc function, referer: http://REMOVED/wp-admin/update-core.php?action=do-core-upgrade

I tried again while checking the server from root with top and the server was not being pushed at all so I'm a little confused what the issue is. Is it worth temporarily pushing my php limits up while I do the upgrade?

Best regards Steve

HELP

I installed 4.1 yesterday. Before I did so, I updated my plugins and themes. Everything was kosher after the install.

This morning I came into work, all set to work on my blog post for the day. I was able to login successfully, and was greeted with a message about another Jetpack update. I clicked okay on that one and let the site do its thing.

Now: my website itself will load, but I can't get into the back end via wp-admin. I've submitted a ticket to my webhost but have heard nothing back.

So far I have:
- manually disabled my plugins
- manually disabled just Jetpack
- changed my .htaccess file to off.htaccess, per suggestion of another post. Didn't work.
- reloaded my .htaccess based on this page. Also didn't work.

Help??

HI,
Anytime I install a plugin, when I activate it, an "Internal Server Error' page appears, and locks me out of my entire site! I tried downloading directly, and also downloading to my computer and then uploading to the site, but neither work. The only way to fix the problem is to delete the plugin files. Latest plugin I tried was the "The Google + Plugin'. Not sure what is causing this, any help would be appreciated!

We are using the bbPress Add On for Paid Memberships Pro add-on and have both PMPro and bbPress plugins running.

This works OK restricting the content however I have two problems.

1) At the moment the message that appears has 'This Content is for Member members only' is there any way of editing this and removing the 2nd 'members'?

2) The links behind the buttons below this message go to a internal server error message. You can see this here: http://www.inhouserecruitment.co.uk/members/

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Derek,

Not really sure to bother your with this matter, as I do not think it's essentially the plugin problem but I hope you can point me a bit more in the right direction.

I recently purchased a new theme (http://themeforest.net/item/sevenmag-blogmagzinegamesnews-wordpress-theme/7114090), and trying to use/install this theme. Unfortunately everytime I try to change a setting (he uses Option Tree 2.3.0 for the Theme Options) my page goes blank with Error 500 internal server error.

I tried contacting the creator of the theme but it seems he hasn't responded for over a month on support tickets, so trying my luck here.

What I tried myself to see if that would fix the problem was downloading your latest version of the plugin 2.4.6, extract the files and replaced them in the theme folder from the recently purchased theme. Although I see 2.4.6 showing up on the backend, the moment I try to change a setting and save it, everything is broken again and I get a blank page.

My knowledge is limited in this division so I hope you can help me out a bit.

Perhaps I should also install more PHP functions on my server? If so could you supply me the requirements?

I have to say that the Theme Option page looks broken as well (even if I update it to 2.4.6).

I can probably guess the answer that it is a theme problem and the creator should fix it but again trying my luck here :)

Cheers!

Kind Regards,

Yuri Gamelkoorn

Once I upgraded to the latest version of WP Fastest Cache (0.8.3.5) I am running into errors on multiple sites on which I've installed this plugin. Whenever I click on 'delete cache' I get an internal server error. On some sites, it even prevented me from viewing other plugin settings until I deactivated WP Fastest Cache.

I found that on one site it was conflicting with the plugin 'Reveal Template', but I am unable to determine what is causing the conflict on this most recent site.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

Our company uses Wordpress for our website. I am not a developer or any kind of tech person. I am an office administrator. I have read through the other posts I have seen regarding this same issue and tried some of the things to see if it changed anything (using a different browser, trying the 2015 theme) but it has not reacted any differently. I am trying to upload a new theme when it reaches 100% and says connected to our site, it then goes to the error page. Can you tell me how to correct this issue? We have a website guy that has helped us in the past and he has corrected a few of the other issues that we have had since updating (links not working, etc) but he is unavailable right now and I really need to get this new theme uploaded.

rafiqa on "Non English BuddyPress causes an Internal Server Error"

Despite compatibility up to Wordpress 4.0.1, it seems BuddyPress 2.1.1 works fine if Wordpress 4.1 is in English.

Using General_Setting - Site_Language in the Wordpress Admin Panel, if I changed the language to Deutch (German), I immediately got an Internal Server Error after I clicked the Save-Changes button.

After I tried several things, the way to get my Admin Panel back was to delete the files in wp-content/languages.

I got the same Internal Server Error if I changed the language to Nederlands, or Espanol.

If I deactivates BuddyPress, Wordpress 4.1 works fine in German language.

My conclusion is that BuddyPress 2.1.1 cannot work in Wordpress 4.1 in German.

The thing is that I want BuddyPress in German.

Is there any way to fix the problem?

Or, is there anybody who has BuddyPress 2.1.1 working in German in Wordpress 4.1 (or any previous version)?

Okay the WordPress version is a guess since I can't access my site anymore. I had it set to automatically update the WordPress software (or so I thought), but a hosting upgrade of PHP to 5.4.36 now has my Wordpress site returning 500 Internal Server Error. They sent a notice prior to the upgrade to some address that never got to me so now I'm stuck after the fact.

My attempts to get to the main page or directly to the admin pages all fail. How can I get my WordPress updated to be compatible with PHP 5.4.36 without web page access?

Thanks gang!

I've been dealing with an Internal Server Error on one of our sites and it seemed to be caused by Jetpack being active. After some troubleshooting, I found that the issue was with a plugin "Bitly URL Generator".

I looked for a new one and found "WP Bitly" and hoped it would work. No dice.

Every time I have a bitly plugin running with Jetpack I get the Internal Server Error. I've tried turning off wp.me shortlinks in Jetpack with no luck either.

Anyone have any ideas - or - know of a good bitly plugin that will work?

I tried to log onto my Wordpress blog and keep receiving an "Internal Server Error" message.

From what I see, my website looks okay (www.hislaboratory.com), but I'm not able to log-on on the backend.

Thank you in advance. Cheers.
